RAGING Bull’s victory in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile Stakes at Santa Anita at the weekend doubled his tally of top-level victories. Two years ago he won the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby in Del Mar, and his record now stands at six wins in 13 starts, four places and never finishing worse than fifth. His earnings now are just over €990,000 – 11 times his yearling purchase price. He is, of course, a dollar millionaire.

Owned by Peter Brant and trained by Chad Brown, he was knocked down to Eugenio Colombo at Goffs as a yearling in 2016, the hammer falling at €90,000. He formed part of the Wildenstein Dispersal at the Orby Sale. Unraced at two, he won a maiden and an allowance, both over a mile, at Keeneland and Belmont Park, returning to the latter for his first attempt at a stakes race, finishing second. A month later he made no mistake when capturing the Grade 2 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes over an extended mile at Saratoga.
