WHAT a week it has been for Alan King. The trainer, most famously associated with major National Hunt winners such as the Champion Hurdle winner Katchit, the first of his bakers’ dozen of winners at the highest level over jumps, is now a Group 1-winning trainer on the level too.

He saddled the five-year-old Planteur (Danehill Dancer) gelding Trueshan to win the Group 1 Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup as a prelude to sending out the two-year-old colt Asymmetric (Showcasing) to capture the Group 2 Richmond Stakes 48 hours later, also at Goodwood. Both winners are graduates of the breeze-up sales, though at different price levels.
