THERE was a poignancy about the victory of Last Goodbye in the bumper at Roscommon this week. The son of Millenary raced for the executors of the late Freddie Doyle and was trained by his daughter Liz. For sale, the trainer is not unsurprisingly hopeful he will stay in her yard. She also trained his half-sister Glen Beg, by Norwich, to win three times over hurdles.

Last Goodbye is the fourth winner for his dam Welsh Ana, an unraced daughter of Welsh Term. The others include six-time winner Freds Benefit by Beneficial, and the Beau Sher gelding Sher Beau. The latter won a point-to-point before graduating to the racecourse where his five victories included a Grade 2 novice hurdle at Fairyhouse and a Grade 3 chase at Navan. He was placed in the Grade 1 John Durkan Punchestown Chase.
