WITH the upcoming Galway Festival meeting in the offing, it is appropriate that a winner of one of the meeting’s iconic races, the Guinness Galway Hurdle, should be in the news. Missunited, a daughter of Golan (Spectrum) carried the colours of her breeder Vanessa Hutch to success in the race seven years ago, and the mare later went on to become a Group 3 winner on the flat and run second to Leading Light in the Group 1 Ascot Gold Cup.

Last weekend her four-year-old son Eagles By Day, a son of Sea The Stars (Cape Cross), stepped up on his Royal Ascot third last year in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes to Japan and won the Group 3 Silver Cup Stakes at York on his first start for trainer David O’Meara. The colt carries the familiar silks of Clipper Logistics and was bought as a foal by Joe Foley for 125,000gns.
