ANY disappointment at Sandown for John Gosden with the defeat of Enable was more than compensated for when Mishriff took the honours at Chantilly in the Group 1 Prix du Jockey Club-French Derby. It was also a dream for John O’Connor and his team at Ballylinch Stud.

The Co Kilkenny stud is home to Make Believe (Makfi) and Mishriff is from that classic winner’s first crop. Mishriff was bred by and races for Prince Faisal, as was Make Believe. The three-year-old weekend classic-winning colt is from the family of Invincible Spirit (Green Desert) and his closely-related brother Kodiac (Danehill), both sons of Rafha (Kris) who won the Group 1 Prix de Diane Hermes-French Oaks 30 years ago, and in the same colours as Mishriff carried.
