PENIAPHOBIA is a fear of poverty or poor people. It is also the name of a four-year-old from the first crop of Dandy Man who hit the big time on Sunday when he landed the Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint, beating his great rival and fellow Irish-bred Gold-Fun.

This was a 10th career success for Peniaphobia and his first at the highest level. He was already a Group 2 winner and runner-up to Sole Power in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan and second in the Hong Kong Sprint last year. One of the most consistent horses in training, Peniaphobia is likely to be a major force on the sprint scene for years to come and a trip to Royal Ascot next June is looking a distinct possibility.
