NOT too many stud farms currently produce private studbooks, so it is always a joy when those that do send them on to me. The most recent to land on my desk is from Joerg and Diana Vasicek’s Kenilworth House Stud in Co Tipperary. The farm is managed by Gerry Ross and is home to five flat and 10 National Hunt mares.

The five flat mares include two Group 1 winners, the younger of the pair being La Collina who was bought by her trainer Kevin Prendergast from Frank, Liz and Luke Barry’s Manister House Stud for £42,000 as a yearling at DBS. She raced for Joerg Vasicek and won the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at two and bounced back to her best and landed the 2013 Coolmore Fusaichi Pegasus Matron Stakes as a four-year-old. This year she had her first foal, a filly by Dubawi, and she is in foal, due next January, to Shamardal.
