GIVING a horse a bad racing name is to be avoided. Having a name like Herald The Dawn certainly gives one something to aspire to and Jim Bolger has plenty of talent to work with in his two-year-old colt of the same name.

Runner-up on his debut over six furlongs at Naas to Reckless Endeavour (by Kodiac), he was sent a furlong longer at Naas on Monday and in the style of a good colt won his maiden. The son of New Approach and Hymn Of The Dawn is a full-brother to Dawn Approach and both colts were bred by the winning trainer.
