A FEW months ago I wrote about Winged Love who succumbed to colic last May at the grand old age of 23 years. While originally retired to stud in Germany at the famed Gestüt Karlshof, it was his move to Hugh Suffern’s Tullyraine House Stud that was the making of him as a sire. I said at the time that his loss would be felt for some time to come.

At the time of that piece the latest reminder of his ability as a sire was provided by Coeur Blimey who won a listed bumper at Ascot the week before Christmas. Since then he has supplied a steady stream of winners, such as Josses Hill and last weekend’s Betfred Midlands Grand National winner Firebird Flyer.
