SUNDAY Racing’s four-year-old filly Gran Alegria (Deep Impact) held off the odds-on favourite Almond Eye to win Sunday’s one-mile Group 1 Yasuda Kinen on turf, earning an automatic berth and fees paid into the $2 million Grade 1 TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile in November. The defending champion, Indy Champ, finished third.

The 70th running of the Yasuda Kinen included 10 Group 1 winners among its 14 starters. Gran Alegria already has a Breeders’ Cup connection as she is a daughter of the 2009 Juvenile Fillies’ Turf winner Tapitsfly (Tapit).
