Frankel’s outstanding book of mares in 2021

ONE of the greatest pleasures in reading the Weatherbys Return of Mares each year is browsing the who’s who of brilliant racemares and producers covered by the very best sires. Take Ireland and Britain’s champion sire-elect Frankel (Galileo), for example.

The publication reveals that he covered 151 mares in 2021, and they included Group/Grade 1 winners Attraction (Efisio), Coronet (Dubawi), Dolniya (Axamour), Dream And Do (Siyouni), Emulous (Dansili), Izzi Top (Pivotal), Lady Eli (Divine Park), Let’s Go Donki (King Kamehameha), Marsha (Acclamation), Millisle (Starspangledbanner), Molly Malone (Lomitas), Newspaperofrecord (Lope De Vega), Pretty Pollyanna (Oasis Dream), Quiet Reflection (Showcasing), Speedy Boarding (Shamardal), Star Catcher (Sea The Stars), Urban Fox (Foxwedge) and Ventura (Chester House).

He also received the dams of top-level winners Accidental Agent (Delegator), A Raving Beauty (Mastercraftsman), Best Of Days (Azamour), Cracksman (Frankel), Cross Counter (Teofilo), Hermosa (Galileo), Oscar Performance (Kitten’s Joy), Quadrilateral (Frankel), Santiago (Authorized), Siskin (First Defence), Siyarafina (Pivotal), Supremacy (Mehmas) and Waldgeist (Galileo).

Three very special mares among Frankel’s book this year are both Group 1 winners and have produced Group 1 winners at stud: Lillie Langtry (Danehill Dancer), the dam of Empress Josephine (Galileo) and Minding (Galileo), Nahrain (Selkirk) who is dam of new Japanese stallion for 2022 Benbatl (Dubawi), and Sky Lantern (Red Clubs), the dam of Snow Lantern (Frankel).

With ammunition like that in the pipeline, this year might not be the last time that Frankel is crowned Ireland and Britain’s champion sire.
