AN honourable mention for Battleoverdoyen (Doyen) who was the only Irish-bred Grade 1 winner at Leopardstown over Christmas. Seven Grade 1 were contested, five were annexed by French-breds, while the German-bred Notebook was the other winner.

Bred by Colin and Caroline Berry, Battleoverdoyen is now a dual Grade 1 winner, adding the Neville Hotels Fort Leney Chase to his victory in the Lawlors of Naas Slaney Hurdle. He has only been beaten once in eight outings; winning a point-to-point as a four-year-old, a Punchestown bumper nearly 600 days later, two hurdle races and three chases.
