10:19 BREEDERS’ CUP

MILE (GRADE 1) (3YO+)

(TURF) 1M ATR/RUK

“IF we can win the Breeders’ Cup, it’s going to be going a mile, simple as that.”

That’s how Mark Casse described the decision to shorten World Approval, a Grade 1 winner at 10 furlongs, back to a mile this summer.

Since that move, the veteran is flawless in two starts at a mile, storming to wins in the Fourstardave at Saratoga and the Woodbine Mile at Woodbine.

The free-running grey gelding will get his chance to prove Casse right, as he takes on a melting pot of turf stars.

Midnight Storm finished third in this race last year, Heart To Heart is all heart on the front, Lancaster Bomber and Roly Poly thicken Coolmore’s paint, Zelzal and Karar travel from France for Al Shaqab, Suedois won the Shadwell Turf Mile on his first swipe in America and, oh yeah, there’s the indomitable Ribchester.

The $3.4 million earner has only won six races from 15 starts, but three of those have come in Group 1 races this year.

For some unexplainable, inexplicable reason, Home Of The Brave keeps coming to the fore.
