EVOKING memories of nearly a decade ago, last week’s three-day sale at Goresbridge delivered a top price of €16,000 together with an extremely healthy set of returns. Capitalising on March’s buoyant figures, four horses broke the five-figure barrier, while 76% (65% in 2014) changed hands.

A further 63 lots realised in excess of €4,000, and 41 of those made €5,000 or more, giving an overall average of €3,448.82 (ponies €2065.00). The depth and solidity of trade bought smiles all round and prompted auctioneer Robert Hunt to comment. ”I’ve been doing this job a long time – and I’ve had so much fun today. I haven’t seen trade like this in 10 years. The prices have reflected the quality of the horses on offer - it’s been phenomenal and the confidence it injects has been immeasurable.”
