LAST Saturday was a great day for Wexford sport. Shortly after their hurlers had humbled Kilkenny, the county’s amateur riders and handlers dominated The Irish Field Point-to-Point Awards in the Clayton White’s Hotel in Wexford town.

The hurling match was shown on big screens in the hotel dining room and wild cheering broke out when the final whistle sounded. It set up the evening perfectly for what was the 38th staging of the awards and one which attracted a bumper crowd of 370, well up on the previous year.
