PETER Fell was probably questioning the wisdom of running last week’s international horse trials at Ballindenisk when, on Thursday, the skies opened and exceptionally heavy rain started falling.

“It was like a monsoon, it was actually terrifying,” said Fell. “Thankfully, having learned from problems elsewhere in Europe, when we put in our new arena, we put in plenty of drainage to make sure it wouldn’t flood and it soaked up every bit of rain.
