PAUL Tapner and the Irish-bred Prince Mayo were cheered by hundreds of well-wishers as they jumped to victory in The Irish Field CCI*** at Tattersalls Tattersalls International Horse Trials and Country Fair in association with Horse Sport Ireland today.

The popular Australian rider jumped onto the podium to collect his winner’s trophy from Caitriona Murphy, editor of Irish Horse World in The Irish Field.

The rider was joined at the prize-giving ceremony by Prince Mayo’s owners, Fred and Penny Barker, as well as the proud breeder, Oliver Walsh from Co Wexford.

The Traditional Irish Horse gelding is by Bonnie Prince (TB) out of Crosshue Lass (ISH) by Colourfield (TB).

Tapner and Prince Mayo, who were initially in third place after dressage, moved up to second after cross-country when going clear over Ian Stark’s challenging course.

Today, the pair gave an exhibition of jumping in the main arena, to win the prestigious class on his dressage score of 44.80.

In second place was Britain’s Flora Harris riding Cooley Lord Lux, another Irish Sport Horse, who moved up from 11th place after their dressage to finish on 60.9.

In third place was yet another British representative, Michael Owen and the Highland Prince, yet another Irish Sport Horse, who finished the competition with a score of 62.90.

CONNOLLY’S RED MILLS CCI** Under-24

The under 24’s also took to the main stage today to contest the Connolly’s Red Mills CCI**and it was Britain’s Tom Jackson and Susan Jenkins’ Dusty who took top honours, finishing all three phases on his dressage score of 43.70.

Britain also took second and third places also as David Doel and Kiltubrid Rhapsody finished in second on 49.40 and Hector Payne and Dynasty finishing in third on 50.90.

Lucy Latta finished best of the Irish in seventh place with DHI Broadway.
