THE 40th annual Australia v Ireland jockeys challenge has gone the way of Australia with leading jockey Steven Pateman landing the telling blows.

Pateman got the local team off to a flyer with a win on Milkwood, not surprisingly by Dylan Thomas, in the 2,200 metre highweight at Murray Bridge. With some of the riders engaged in races at Ballarat the following day, Jody McGarvey picked up a third on Quintin behind Johnny Allen on the winner Rebel Force in the Maiden Hurdle. McGarvey however raised the ire of stewards after his mount had forced Polixenis Boy inside the marker pegs, rewarding McGarvey with a seven-day ban following his Morphettville commitments.
