NEWCASTLE-trainer Kris Lees has landed a telling blow at the start of the autumn carnival winning the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes at Flemington with In Her Time. The 1,000 metre sprint surprisingly saw the two-year-old filly Jedastar in the field with a feather-light 44kgs to carry under the weight-for-age conditions.
Lees and jockey Corey Brown planned on taking a sit on the juvenile filly but those plans were dashed when Jedastar missed the jump. “She was exposed the whole race but Corey summed it up early and took up the running on the inside and that was probably the winning move,” said Lees.
