WITH three trials under her belt, the third in between races on Apollo Stakes day, Winx’s fitness was ready for 1,600 metres. Despite having her preferred surface with some cut in the ground, few would have been bold enough to predict the seven-length demolition job she handed her eight rivals at Randwick on Saturday.

A $1.09 favourite for the Chipping Norton Stakes, Winx was unhurried out of the gates by Hugh Bowman, settling near the tail as the race found its tempo. Improving at the bend, the contest was soon a procession as only the 2016 Victoria Derby winner Prized Icon emerged from the pack.
