THE second session of the Arqana September Yearling Sale saw 133 lots go through the ring. A total of 75% changed hands for an average of €17,190, generating a turnover of €1.67 million. This sale was staged in a new format and on new dates for the first time. A report on the opening day appeared last week.

The top price last Friday was for a daughter of Goken from Haras de Colleville. Sold for €74,000, the filly is out of a half-sister to the unbeaten 2022 listed bumper winner Impulsive Dancer, now trained by Willie Mullins. This is also the family of Group 1 winners Intense Focus and Skitter Scatter, and the new purchase will now carry the colours of Bernard Giraudon.

Over the two days, some 74% of lots sold for an average of €19,236. The total turnover reached €3,905,000. After the sale, in a joint statement, Arqana president Éric Hoyeau and their executive director Freddy Powell said: “We still have some adjustments to make to the format of this young sale, which must find its place. We would like to thank all the vendors who put their trust in us.

“The percentage of horses sold is satisfactory and many French professionals, including many trainers, have been active. This is encouraging. Let’s remember that all these yearlings are eligible for the Arqana Series, with the first races taking place next year. We will analyse all the segments of yearling sales at the end of the October Sale, when we will have a more global overview.”
