THIS seems to be a golden summer for anniversary shows and Bannow & Rathangan Show, which started as a ploughing society and followed on with its first agricultural show in 1949, celebrated its 70th anniversary last week.

Originally held at the Furlong family farm in Littlegraigue, the show has taken place at James and Veronica White’s Killag farm since 1980 and it appears the entire south-east downs tools for show day. Con Power, who grew up in Hook Head, described Bannow as “world-class” in his article, which now appears in The Irish Field’s Dublin Horse Show magazine.
