THE team at Tipperary Equestrian Centre, together with Ursuline Secondary School, Thurles hosted a most enjoyable leg of the TRI Interschools league last Sunday.

Ursuline’s Transition Year students proved a most efficient arena party proving great enthusiastic help on the day. There was an air of great excitement, not least amongst the keen supporters from Scoil Pol, Kilfinane, one of a number of schools new to the interschools league who were competing on the day.

The day started with the TRI Open Team competition, which was won in fine style by host school, Ursuline Secondary School whose other team were the runners-up. Representing the winning team were Carla Williamson riding Comberton Coda, Chloe Hourigan on Kilmallow Chattie, Isobel Hourigan on ShirsheenCruiser and Hilary Brannigan on Burning Rebel.

The runner-up team was Orlaith Ryan riding D’Or, Alexandra Hourigan on JJ, Robyn Fitzgerald’s Lyncott Corey B, and Faye Delaney on Rossdarragh Flash. The Rockwell team came third and were Alice Emerald riding Cupid’s Delight, Ruby French Davison on Game Spirit Japica, Ciara Ryan on Tequila Ruby and Olivia Devereaux on Ellie Murphy. Presentation Thurles, Gorey Community School and Colaiste Bhride Carnew came fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

Byrne scores again

A well supported TRI Open Individual competition followed where, once again, the honours were claimed by Colaiste Bhride’s Cian Byrne on Cara Cave Boy. Olivia Deveraux riding Ellie Murphy was second ahead of Jessica Murphy on Ashwood Reggie riding for Gorey CS. Johnnie Sheppard, Colaiste Bhride Carnew, Jessie O’Sullivan, St John the Baptist and Jemma Hannon, also representing St John the Baptist, claimed the remaining league points.

Rockwell clinch novice team title

The EII Novice Team event saw a win for the Rockwell College novice team. The team members were Charlotte Sexton riding Sparky Papa, Jamie Browne on Tequila Alex, Zach Palmer on Carnaven Jake and Harry Barton on Elcabello.

Second place went to the St Declan’s Kilmacthomas team with Ben Cusack riding Little Miss Xena, Keira O’Reilly on Cardagh Moonlight, Lucy Jane O’ Reilly riding Pretty Neat and Sarah Jackman riding Little Miss Crystal.

Local school Presentation Thurles riders Tara Moquet on Stardust, Emma O’Meara and Aero Dynamics, Evelyn Fahey on Creggab Bell and Molly Healy on Sunny Sky came in third. The other St Declan’s team was fourth, with Loreto Wexford in fifth and Scoil Pol Kilfinane taking sixth.

Win for Browne

The final competition of the day was the fun Novice Individual class. This also went the way of Rockwell College with Jamie Browne riding Tequila Max seeing off the opposition.

Holly Gee from Loreto Kilkenny riding Coolodge Maebh claimed second place ahead of Lucy Darby on Darkly Julie, Harry Barton on Elcabalo, Conor Cusack on Annadale royal Mint and Jennifer Lane on Claddagh.

The action this weekend mpves to Broadmeadow Equestrian, Ashbourne hosted by proprietor Brian Duff and his team.
