THE Faculty of Equine Science has now been in existence in Limerick University since 1972 when it was set up under founding professor, the late Des Baggot. The course is currently headed by Prof. Sean Arkins and Dr Brigid Young, the distinguished nutritionist. In the intervening years, the course has produced many outstanding graduates who have gone on to stellar careers in the equine industry, among them are Fairyhouse manager Peter Roe and Thomas Ryan, manager of Naas racecouse until recently. In the area of stud management, Limerick University graduates include Nigel Anderton of Islanmore Stud and Willie Brogan in Ballysheehan.
