THERE was another good turnout for the latest TRI Interschools show jumping league show which was hosted by Wexford Equestrian last Sunday. Every class produced good jumping and exciting jump-offs to decide the placings.

St Declan’s Community School, Kilmacthomas saw off rivals East Glendalough to claim the prize in the TRI Open Teams league competition. St Declan’s was represented by Kiera Reilly (Belle), Eabha Mansfield (Rosie), Clodagh Shanahan (Coolfin Viviendi) and Gearoid Bolger (Whitethorn Honeys and Rock).

The East Glendalough teams consisted of Robert Cherry (Firebolt), Carlstrom Kingcarra Mia ridden by Anna Hudson, Anna Morrissey (Shergar Rose) and Carra Cave Boy ridden by Jazmine Arthur. Third place went to the Gorey Community School team of Naomi Doyle (Pairc Na Ruarc), Lauren Spencer (Sparrow), Angela McGee riding Abbeybrooke Aurora and Jessica Murphy (Ashwood Reggie), with Borris Vocational School, Dominican College Wicklow and St Gerard’s Bray claiming the remaining league points.

East Glendalough’s Robert Cherry, again riding Firebolt, was fastest in the TRI Open Individual League class to claim first place ahead of Colaiste Bhride’s Chloe Massey (Call Me Callie), in second was Steven Dee for Borris Vocational School (Mosey Murphy). Drumlane Oscar and Baylee Neville, Dominican College Wicklow, Gearoid Bolger riding Whitehorn Honeys Rock for St Declan’s Kilmacthomas, and Drumin Pretty Lady, ridden by Hannah O’Neill from Coláiste Bhríde Carnew, took fourth, fifth and sixth.

Devereux and Kelly shine

The HSI 1.10m qualifier class was claimed by Rockwell College’s Olivia Devereux riding Ellie Murphy. Starbourne and Emma Kehoe from St Mary’s New Ross was the runner-up ahead of Curra Paco and Aoibhe Kearney representing F C J Bunclody. Fourth place went to Wexford Equestrian’s Taylor Peare riding Lisseyegan Geoffrey for Loreto Wexford. In fifth were Mon Ami and Megan Neville from Dominican College Wicklow and Casey Neville (West Brooke Dancer) of Dominican College Wicklow. Since Olivia Devereux and Megan Neville were already qualified, the final qualifying places went to Lauren Keatley riding Soloso for Coláiste Lorcain, Castledermot and Naomi Doyle and Pairc Na Ruane for Gorey CS.

The EII 90cm novice qualifier class was won by Penny Kelly riding Dunbeggan Dreamer for St Paul’s, Monasterevin. In second place was Sparkey Pope Winning Gold ridden by Charlotte Sexton representing Rockwell College, while third went to Ciara Sinnott (Bentley) for St Mary’s New Ross. The remaining qualifying slots on offer went to Maddison Askins, Holly Spencer, Jessica Kinsella and Joe Dunne.

Win for Presentation

The EII Novice team event produced plenty of excellent jumping and the team from Presentation Secondary School, Wexford were delighted with their win. Jags and Mia Meyler, Bob ridden by Ellen Goggins, Arnie and Grace Kelly, and Eva Mulligan riding Teddy were on the winning team.

The novice St Declan’s team claimed second place, represented by Darragh Walsh (Hugo), Lucy Jane Reilly (Pretty Neat), Sarah Jackman (Quinlan’s Crystal) and Aoife Lenihan (Dudes Laws). Gorey Community School’s Holly Spencer (Mischa), Shayna Glynn (Mighty Mouse), Amber Farrell (Scooby) and Mayhall Star ridden by Madison Askins, slotted into third ahead of Loreto Wexford and East Glendalough.

Hazel Slattery riding Breolie Mist from Kilrane NS was the winner of the primary individual league class with The Wow Cow, ridden by Isla Coad from St Saviour’s Rathdrum in second and Aoife Murphy riding Polly for Our Lady’s Island coming third.

Scoil Bhride triumphs

The journey from Kill, Co Kildare was well worthwhile when the Scoil Bhride team were victorious in the primary team class. Lucy McCarthy (Clio), Emily McCarthy (Luna), David Kent (Bobby Jo) and Lucy Kent (Lotso) were the team members. The combined St Saviour’s/Kiltegan NS team were second ahead of Kilraine NS in third. Scoil Bhride rider Lucy McCarthy won the novice 80cm ahead of David Kent and Emily McCarthy. The primary 55cm class was won by Shannon Griffith on Mabel for Screen NS.

Action this weekend moves to JAG Equestrian Centre, Co Kildare.
