THREE supreme championships of show were judged in the Gold Ring on Saturday and another four on Sunday with the Jamie Smyth-ridden My Diamond Solitaire leaving the arena swathed in sashes on both evenings.

In Saturday’s evening performance, Smyth and Karen King’s home-bred Irish Sport Horse gelding claimed the Equine Viewer Ireland novice supreme championship with the Hannah Mackey-ridden novice show pony champion, Wycroft Gatsby, a seven-year-old British-bred bay gelding by Cusop Dimension, standing reserve.

On Sunday, having won the ridden hunter championship, the middleweight My Diamond Solitaire was judged the ridden horse supreme champion ahead of the champion cob, the Kathryn Boyd-ridden Brother Hubbard, an 11-year-old maxi chesnut. My Diamond Solitaire is by the ISH stallion Balief Guy out of the Bright Diamond mare, Diamonds Joy.

The mini novice champion of champions was the Casey-Lee Miller ridden Tresparrett Indian Tribute, winner en route of the Mountain and Moorland mini championship. The reserve supreme sash went to Kathy Geoghegan Curley’s Pantycoed Mercutio (by Dirion Ffloyd) who, under Keelan Curley had earlier stood reserve in the Mountain and Moorland mini championship.

The third title decided on Saturday evening was the Price Family supreme in-hand championship where the honours went to Aidan Williamson’s traditionally-bred ISH gelding KSF Spotlight, winner earlier of the hunter horse breeding youngstock championship. The two-year-old bay by Financial Reward was bred in Co Galway by Tom Newell out of the Colin Diamond mare Kilcahill Diamond.

The reserve here was the sport horse breeding youngstock champion, Tom Conlon’s ISH filly Cappulcorragh Quality Times, a three-year-old by OBOS Quality 004. The bay, who was bred in Co Mayo by Elizabeth Murphy, is out of the Maltstriker mare Malt Patrol.

Two ridden pony supreme championships were judged in the Gold Ring on Saturday with the winner’s sash for the Lewis Family mini pony supreme championship going to the Kjerstin Chissel-ridden mare Hightopps Honey Bee (by Barkway Partytime) who had progressed to the evening judging following their victory in the part-bred mini championship.

Cameron Barry claimed the reserve spot here on the mini working hunter champion, Rhydygrug Peter Pan, a 17-year-old Welsh gelding by Rhosaur Vee.

The late Ellie McDonnell’s name graced the ridden pony supreme championship where the honours went to Greyland Maid at Sundown who was reserve in the open show hunter pony championship. The 11-year-old British-bred mare was ridden by Chloe Salley for her grandmother, Margaret Miller. Here, Charlotte Smiley finished reserve supreme with the open ridden Mountain and Moorland champion, Copley Lane Ringo.
