THE fourth leg of the Jumpinaction.net Secondary Schools Jumping League got under way on a very wet and cold Sunday morning with the novice individual class kicking off proceedings.

It was St Andrews’ student Sophie Crosthwaite who rode Ballydeely Kate over the line in a time of 40.57 seconds to take home the winner’s rug on this occasion. Runner-up was a regular at Killossery Lodge in Poppy O’Dwyer from Dunshaughlin Community College with Puzzle who crossed the line in 41.61 from another familiar face, Lily Sullivan from Scoil Dara, Kilcock, who took the third place rosette. Kate Teahan, who was first to jump in the class and had held the lead for half the class, had to be content with fourth. Mount Sackville were represented by Ava Donnellan who took fifth and Ratoath College student Maggi Caffrey was sixth.

The Jumpinaction.net Secondary Schools Team competition saw 13 teams jumping for the prizes. The Frank Glynn-designed track caused a few problems with only two teams finishing on zero faults. First to jump for Eureka/St Ciaran’s was Ruby Morris with Maggie, a good clear set the bar high and team mate Amy Sutton (Orlaigh) also jumped clear so with a combined total of 66.78 they looked hard to beat. However, Aveen McDonnell and Sheana Fitzpatrick both jumped clear for Mount Sackville’s red team and with a combined score of 66.33, they took home the winners’ rugs. The Institute of Education team slotted into third while Ashbourne Community School, with only three members, took fourth. Mount Sackville also had their yellow team in the line-up taking fifth place while the final place went to Loreto Balbriggan.

In the 90/95cm Championship, Jack O’Reilly and Gin set an early lead with a clear in 43.77 but he didn’t hold it for long as Grace Rooney went clear in 36.76. Robyn Murray was next, crossing the line in 39.34 to take third spot. Castleknock College student Siobhan Flynn with Esano took fourth. Aveen McDonnell crossed the line in 36.79 to take second spot but the win went to Ruari O’Neill from Lusk Community School who rode Dora, clear in 31.03.
