ON February 6th 1938, Jim Lilley and his twin brother John were born to their parents George and Matilda. As children, both Jim and John loved football, playing for Downshire FC with Jim as goalkeeper and he remained a football fan throughout his life – being honorary president of the Dunmurry Branch of the NI Football Supporters Club until his recent death.

Jim left school at 14 and served his time as a joiner. Going into business on his own, he established two successful building companies, also developing a third in the Isle of Man. He was held in high regard by many who worked with him, in particular for his insight into complicated legal matters and the fact that he missed nothing.
