BILLY McCully, a pioneer of show jumping in the post-war years, died aged 90 in October.

Billy learned to ride on his father Hughie’s two identical bay ponies which Hughie was reputed to switch when the good one failed to jump clear first time. At the age of 14, Billy left school and was sent to Dublin to try to ride for Collens but shortly after was headhunted by Mrs R.G. Garland of Newry.
