MANY congratulations to Caledon trainer Andy Oliver who became engaged last Saturday when Saffron Hutchinson accepted his pre-hunting proposal in the Four Corners pub, Brackaville. Saffron, who is a very good polo player, shares Andy’s passion for hunting which is little surprise as she is a daughter of South Tyrone joint-Master Stephen Hutchinson and his wife Charlotte. See this week’s On Point news on page A64.

Out with the South Tyrones over a week previously, well-known veterinary surgeon, steward, Co Down joint-Master and former amateur Robert Steele suffered a very serious fall. He was taken first to Cavan hospital and then on to the Royal in Belfast where, having undergone major surgery, his situation improved greatly last weekend. “Robert would like to thank all in Cavan and the Royal for the great care he received,” reported Steele’s wife Sylvia. “He turned the corner over the weekend and is in much better form.”
