ONLY one filly made it among the 10 yearlings who sold for 1,000,000gns or more.

However, seven of the nine lots to sell for between 800,000gns and 900,000gns were fillies.

Amanda Skiffington gave 900,000gns for Glenvale Stud’s half-sister to Group 1 winner and Cheveley Park Stud sire Garswood, while Jamie McCalmont’s bid of 850,000gns secured Barronstown Stud’s half-sister to Coolmore’s Ivawood for 850,000gns on behalf of Georg Von Opel’s Westerberg. Von Opel, a great-grandson of the founder of the car manufacturer bearing the family name, is a Swiss-based billionaire who is buying fillies to become foundation mares for a new farm being established.

Another high-priced daughter of Galileo was Manister House Stud’s three-parts sister to Irish Derby winner Latrobe and Oaks runner-up Pink Dogwood, and she cost Peter Molony, acting for David Redvers Bloodstock, 800,000gns.

Galileo’s son Frankel sired Glenvale Stud’s daughter of the winning Cape Cross mare Wadyhatta and Lauren Benoit, standing with George Von Opel and M.V. Magnier, won the race for her at 850,000gns, the same price given by Kerri Radcliffe for Newsells Park Stud’s War Front half-sister to the Oaks winner Qualify.

Willie Carson’s Minster Stud had its best sale result ever when M.V. Magnier paid 825,000gns for a daughter of Le Havre out of the Group 2 runner-up Phiz, a daughter of Galileo who was trained by John Gosden. Carson gave €600,000 for Phiz carrying this yearling and the mare is now in foal to Dubawi.
