HUGH Bowman’s decision to push forward from a wide gate on the Chris Waller-trained Amicus proved to be the winning move in the 1000 Guineas at Caulfield last Saturday.
The Fastnet Rock filly landed on the rail tracking Traveston Girl who set a solid tempo up front, as others were happy settling further back. Angled into the open on the bend, Bowman was able to give Amicus plenty of time to get balanced before overhauling the Flying Spur filly Traveston Girl who fought on gamely, conceding three-quarters of a length to be second.
