THE uncertainty in the US about a full racing programme taking place has caused a number of trainers to change plans with their top three-year-olds in coming weeks. Rules regarding shipping imposed by the owners of Gulfstream Park, and where horses stand on the current points list for a September Kentucky Derby, are also a factor.

Todd Pletcher’s Gouverneur Morris now will be considered for the Arkansas Derby on May 2nd, but Modernist will bypass the race, according to trainer Bill Mott, and Sole Volante is unlikely to participate, according to trainer Patrick Biancone as the horse and any staff would be required to quarantine at a different centre and not return to Gulfstream where Biancone is based.
