Wexford teenager Bertram Allen finished fifth in last Sunday’s five-star Grand Prix at’s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands after a gruelling contest in which some of the world’s top riders failed to qualify for the jump-off.

With only five combinations going through to the final round from a starting field of 38, Allen (18) produced a foot-perfect opening performance with Ballywalter Farms’s grey mare Molly Malone V. However, in the jump-off, Allen faulted twice to finish fifth overall with prize money of €24,500.
