LAST Monday was an important day in the history of Roscommon racecourse, with the official opening of the new weigh-room facility at the track which is located on the outskirts of the town. Horse Racing Ireland chief executive Brian Kavanagh was entrusted with the role of cutting the ribbon at the ceremony, attended by many racing and local dignitaries.

A special lunch was held in advance of the meeting at which the absent Michael Finneran, the secretary/manager of Roscommon, was lauded by every speaker for his contribution to the racecourse and for seeing through the development.
