A EUROPEAN contingent of 29 horses - nine from Ireland, seven from France and 13 from the UK - is among the 200 pre-entries for the 2015 Breeders’ Cup World Championships to be run at Keeneland Racecourse, Lexington, Kentucky on Friday and Saturday, October 30th and 31st.

Not for the first time the bulk of the Irish representation comes from the Ballydoyle Stables of trainer Aidan O’Brien, who has seven entries, including Gleneagles in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, the ultra-consistent Found in the $3 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf, while War Envoy has been given an entry in the mile races on both turf and dirt. O’Brien has also entered four two-year-olds - Waterloo Bridge, Shogun, Hit It A Bomb and Alice Springs.

David Wachman is represented by the triple Group 1-winning filly, Legatissimo, who will probably start favourite for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.

France is strongly represented in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, with current champion Karakontie back to defend his crown for soon-to-retire trainer Jonathan Pease and the Niarchos family. Also in the field are the Andre Fabre-trained multiple Group 1 winners, Esoterique and Make Believe.

The best hope of a British success at the meeting comes in the $3 million Breeders’ Cup Turf where the Epsom Derby winner Golden Horn will bid to become the first horse to complete the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe/Breeders’ Cup Turf double.
