AMERICAN Aga Khan winner and billionaire’s daughter Katie Dinan has been confirmed as the new owner of the record-breaking Irish Sport Horse Dougie Douglas.

The Nations Cup show jumper, who was part of the United States team that won the Aga Khan trophy in Dublin in 2014, is also the daughter of billionaire Jamie Dinan who founded York Capital Management.

Currently studying Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology at Harvard, Katherine, known as Katie on the show jumping circuit, has been riding horses since she turned four years old.

Her many successes include Grand Prix victories in the Winter Equestrian Festival, National Horse Show, Old Salem Farm, and HITS Thermal. She also placed in the 2013 and 2014 World Cup Finals aboard Nougat du Vallet.

Dougie Douglas last month set a new Irish record auction price by selling for a whopping €1.4 million at the Goresbridge Supreme Sale of Showjumpers in Co Wexford.

The Nations Cup show jumper, competed by Holly Gillott and jointly owned by the rider and Graham Smith, represented Britain in a number of Nations’ Cups in the last two years.

The 10-year-old liver chesnut gelding, by Ard VDL Douglas out of the High Roller dam Neills Girl, was purchased by Irish agent Barry O’Connor for Dinan.

Dinan told the US-based Chronicle of the Horse: “We had admired him for a long time. We saw him at a few shows in Europe last summer. We’d always seen that he was a very competitive horse and he had great results with Holly Gillott.

“We noticed he was going into an auction last month and that piqued our interest. So we went for it and it was very exciting.”

She added: “We have a good idea of what he can do. He was ridden by a woman, which I think is reassuring too because she’s a similar type to me.

We took a little bit of a chance of course, but he’s in Florida now and I rode him the first time over Thanksgiving. He felt really good, so we’ll start showing in January and see how it goes.”
