THE five-star jumping performer Mullaghdrin Touch The Stars in now readily available to Irish breeders.

Jessie Drea’s exceptional stallion has been campaigned at the highest level of the sport by Drea herself and, more recently, by Irish rider Michael Duffy, representing both Britain and Ireland on Nations Cup teams.

By Touchdown out of the Irco Mena-sired Irco Rain, the 2005 stallion was bred by Dr Noel Cawley in Co Kildare. He comes from a pedigree full of top class performers, which includes his full-sister Touchable, who Jessie also rode at five-star Nations Cup level and went to the 2014 World Equestrian Games as travelling reserve, and half-brother Mullaghdrin Gold Rain (Shane Breen), by Golden Cliff.

Mullaghdrin Touch The Stars was the highest earning Irish Sport Horse in the Hippomundo rankings for 2019, scooping a total of €244,894 in prize money. Ridden by Duffy, their biggest result came in the five-star 1.60m Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in Estoril, Portugal, when they finished third on the podium behind European champion Martin Fuchs (Chaplin) and Ben Maher (Explosion W). The pair also won a 1.55m Table A at the show.

The Global Champions League Playoffs in Prague last December was also a happy hunting ground Mullaghdrin Touch The Stars, who produced two phenomenal clear rounds for the Miami Celtics teams.

Jessie bought the stallion after selling his full-sister, Touchable, who brought her to the top of the sport. “I wanted to try him after I sold Touchable. Although at first glance they don’t look the same, they both have the same easy scope and incredible temperament,” Jessie said.

“He’s a very a special animal with an amazing heart. When you go in the ring, you know he’s not going to let you down.

"You never walk a course and think ‘oh that’s big’ or feel that anything is going to be difficult. It’s a lovely feeling. I don’t think I’ve come across a kinder, more intelligent horse, and he seems to be passing on his amazing character to his offspring too.”

Mullaghdrin Touch The Stars is breeding correct, blood-type offspring with good characters. One example is the four-year-old gelding MT Star Lux, who won the three-year-old Potential Event Horse class at the 2019 Dublin Horse Show for breeder Gareth Carlisle.

Jessie purchased the gelding from the Monart Sale last year for €25,000, and the four-year-old gelding is currently being ridden by Michael Duffy. “We loved the horse when we saw the videos of him loose jumping and he’s a beautiful type,” Jessie said of MT Star Lux. “It’ll be exciting to see him out when the shows start up again, he looks seriously good at home and we’re really excited about his future.”

Frozen semen for Mullaghdrin Touch the Stars is currently stored at Kylemore Stud in Loughrea, Co Galway, and is available nationwide.

He has got an incredible mind and character. He is the most money-winning horse I’ve ever had and I’ve only ridden him for one season.
