IN the lengthy period under review, there were a lot of former northern-trained point-to-pointers who won on the track, the earliest of them being St Johns Point who landed a novice hurdle at Towcester on December 18th.

Bred by the McConveys out of the Insan mare Dunsford Belle, the Darsi gelding won a Kirkistown maiden in March when trained by Brian Hamilton for Oliver Milligan. St Johns Point was then consigned to Doncaster’s May Sale where he was purchased by Highflyer Bloodstock for just £10,000.
