It is to be hoped that a recent run of injuries does not curtail A.P.McCoy’s remarkable career, but the fact is that he will miss next week’s attractive Open meeting at Cheltenham.
The champion jockey, all set for a 20th consecutive title, has had three setbacks in quick succession. He was kicked on the ground after being unseated at Worcester, left the course in agony after hurting his shoulder at Wetherby and was unseated earlier this week at Exeter. He gave up his only ride at Towcester on Thursday (scene of his 4000th career victory a year ago) and admitted that he was still very sore. If absent for a fortnight, which is what he anticipates, he should be back in time for the Hennessy at Newbury.
