THE flat meeting at Naas on Monday had more than the usual interest, with an above-average winning performance in the Listed Woodlands Stakes and a winning debut from a two-year-old filly who is bred to be special. Those two winners were, respectively, Fort del Oro and Roly Poly, with the former registering a 113 timefigure and the latter an 80. The Edward Lynam-trained Fort del Oro coped well enough with the drop to the minimum trip but could prove even better returned to 6f. She looks up to lesser Group race success at either distance.

Roly Poly (by Galileo, out of Irish 1000 Guineas and Pretty Polly Stakes winner Misty For Me) overcame weakness in the market and greenness in the race to beat Gone To Russia by a short-head and should prove a lot better than the bare form, though she will admittedly have to be to have a chance at somewhere like Royal Ascot.
