Dunboyne Express sold to HK

Article Date: 23-September-2011

Two time Group 3 winner Dunboyne Express has been sold to race in Hong Kong in a six deal brokered by Peter Hickey of Tiranga Bloodstock.

The son of Shamardal is now in Newmarket and will join John Moore in Hong Kong after going through quarantine. His early aim for his new connections will be the Hong Kong Derby in March.

Peter Hickey said: "He is a very nice horse who has won Group races at two and three and we have finally managed to acquire him having tracked him for almost a year. He has been bred by a genius trained by a legend and now goes to one of the greatest trainers in the world.”

His former trainer Kevin Prendergast said, “he is a very straight forward horse was a pleasure to train. I would like to wish his new connections all the best with him.”

Dunboyne Express is another horse to head to Hong Kong from Britain and Ireland and Peter Hickey has his own views as to why.

“The Hong Kong market is stunningly strong at the moment and accompanied with the poor prize money in Britain it is no surprise to see horses heading to Hong Kong/America and Australia to further their career. At Tiranga Bloodstock we specialise in stallion purchases and as horses leave for overseas their absence could leave a shortage of new stallions in the UK and Ireland which brings with it, its own problems.”

Dunboyne Express has a year half brother by Ravens Pass in Tattersalls Book One next month and his breeder John Connaughton said, “if his half brother can run as well as he looks he will have every chance of emulating his fantastically talented older sibling.”
