Almost 600 people turned out to run the Jog for Jockeys 5k at The Curragh, Leopardstown and Limerick Racecourses on Sunday.
Among the well known faces at the three courses were:- Matt Chapman from At the Races, Paddy Courtney, Kicking King, Ruby Walsh, Andrew McNamara, Michael Hourigan, Dr Adrian McGoldrick, Gary Carroll, David Casey, John Cullen.
Frank Quinlan from Waterford who works for trainer Eoin Griffin won the Limerick Jog for Jockeys in 16.36 and was the quickest of the three courses. Catherine Eyre was the fastest woman in Limerick in 20.38. Eddie O’Neil won the Curragh in 16.37 and the fastest women was Dervla Duffy. The Leopardstown winner was Neil Callaghan in 17.35 and fastest woman was Grace O’Rourke.
This year there was a team element for the first time, the winning Curragh Team was The YITBA team - Gary Carroll, Kevin Blake Cathal Beale and Liam Glynn. Fastest Jockey home at the Curragh was Mark Bolger, followed closely by Gary Carroll. The Winning Limerick team was called 'One as Bad as the Other':- Ian Hanley, John O'Brien, Fergal Lawlor & Michelle Russell. Fastest jockey home at Limerick was Adrian Heskin who finished 4th and John Cullen was 9th. Winning Leopardstown team was the ‘A-Team’:- Denis O’Donnell, David Cunningham, Michael O’Grady and Natalia Sokolowska. Fastest jockey was Emmet McNamara in Leopardstown, he was 4th.
On behalf of the jockeys, Turf Club medical officer Dr Adrian McGoldrick said: "There was a wonderful turn out and atmosphere at the Curragh, it’s a great cause and I was delighted to take part. A big thank you to Audrey O’Dwyer and Joe Osborne and all the volunteers who made it all happen. I’m looking forward to next year already”.
