THE Greenham Stakes sets the standard for Newmarket’s 2000 Guineas at the weekend. Muhaarar and Estidhkaar ran fast in both overall and sectional terms at Newbury, and the sustained support for the latter – who had also impressed on the clock as a two-year-old – seems entirely justified.

The Greenham looks a better guide than the Craven, for all that the winner of the latter, Kool Kompany, may not be the hopeless outsider his odds imply.
