Speirs leads the Irish after dressage

The Irish eventing squad is lying in 10th of 13 nations after two days of dressage at the Olympic Games in Greenwich Park. Camilla Speirs is best-placed of the team in equal 27th with Portersize Just A Jiff. The first drops of rain began to fall in the main arena midway through Speirs' test, but it had little affect as she posted a score of 47.6 penalties. Aoife Clark remains in contention with Master Crusoe after scoring 48.9 yesterday to sit in 32nd after the first phase. Also in action yesterday were Joseph Murphy (Electric Cruise) and Michael Ryan (Ballylynch Adventure), who are placed 53rd on 55.6 and 64th on 60.2 respectively. Mark Kyle was the final Irish competitor into the dressage arena. After what appeared to be some tough marking, he goes into cross-country in 61st place on 58.7. Ireland's team total of 152.1 puts them in 10th place, some 33 penalties off the German leaders. The Australians are currently in second, with the host nation occupying third. Surprisingly, the top-placed nations aren't represented  in the top three individually, with the field headed by Japan's Yoshiaki Oiwa (Noonday De Conde) on 38.1. Italy's Stefano Brecciaroli is second on 38.5, while New Zealand's Mark Todd is third on  39.1. Cross-country gets underway tomorrow at 12.30pm, with Ryan first out for Ireland at 12.46pm. He's followed by Clark at 1.42pm, Murphy at 2.42pm, Speirs at 3.46pm and Kyle at 4.50pm.
