TEN meetings were held in Britain last weekend, a few of them suffering from small fields with the father and son team of Alan and Joe Hill landing the men’s open at Ampton on Sunday unopposed with Broken Eagle.
Five of the seven winners were Irish-bred, four of them contributing to four-timers for in-form local trainer Andrew Pennock and Welsh rider Evan David. Their one first-time scorer among the quartet was the seven-year-old Beneficial gelding Royal Chieftain who, on his second start across the water, landed the open maiden.
