It was good to have the Longford and Westmeath meeting back on the schedule after an absence of three seasons and with a new course at Corbeagh House. These two hunts have a good number of dedicated enthusiasts who are well capable of putting on a top-class meeting. It was therefore very disappointing to see so few horses engaged.

The new track, in a very scenic setting, was ideal for spectators and it was hard to see why so few of the entries actually turned up to run. The going was even all around the course and some very effective remedial drainage had been carried out.
