TRAINER John Gosden declared that he was happy with how his Derby colt Wings of Desire handled the undulations in a racecourse gallop at Epsom this morning.

Frankie Dettori partnered the colt in the gallop around the Derby track

Gosden said: “Frankie was very happy with Wings Of Desire and thrilled with the way the colt has come on mentally. He loved the way he came down the hill, changed his legs in the straight and picked up when he wanted him to. He was happy with him and he has learnt a lot.”

Also in action at the track was Andre Fabre’s leading French contender Cloth Of Stars. After he completed his work with a stable companion jockey Mickael Barzalona said it was "very hard to compare both (Cloth Of Stars and previous winner Pour Moi). Pour Moi had good acceleration, Cloth Of Stars is more workmanlike but he is very fast out of the gates. It’ll be a big help to get a good position early so I imagine we’ll have a position just behind the pace."

Aidan O'Brien believes that Ryan Moore will ride US Army Ranger.

In a telephone link up he said US Army Ranger 'has an awful lot of class but he is a baby' and added that Seamie Heffernan was very happy with Idaho.

“They have another bit of work to do and that will probably tell Ryan an awful lot more. They were all solid group horses last year and they're all by Galileo. They're open to improvement all of those horses although US Army Ranger is arguably open to more improvement as he's still a baby."

Ballydoyle have eight left in the Investec Derby but The Gurkha is “probably going to Paris. More likely than not he'll go to Paris,” O'Brien said.

Jim Bolger also gave his assessment by telephone of his Derrrinstown Trial winner Moonlight Magic.

“I wouldn't swop Moonlight Magic for anything in the race, I couldn't be more happy with him. He has the looks, demeanour and balance to go with his pedigree there are no faults with this fellow. He's a beautifully balanced horse so hopefully he'll handle Epsom well.”

Andrea Atzeni to partner his Investec Derby hope Ulysses in a piece of work tomorrow.

The Flaxman Stables colt, a son of Derby winner Galileo and Oaks winner Light Shift won his maiden by eight lengths at Newbury after finishing second to Imperial Aviator, a subsequent impressive winner of Newbury’s London Gold Cup.

Kieran Fallon looks likely to pick up a ride for his old boss on Among The Stars after partnering him this morning.

Fallon was Stoute's principal jockey between 1999 and 2004, riding two Derby winners for the yard in the shape of 2003 hero Kris Kin and 2004 victor North Light.

Kris Kin was owned by Saeed Suhail, in whose colours Across The Stars also runs, and Suhail's racing manager Bruce Raymond said: "Kieren rode him (Across The Stars) this morning and I gather he will ride him again when Sir Michael works him tomorrow. If he runs in the Derby, I'm sure Kieren Fallon will ride him.

Across The Stars has won one of his four starts and finished third in the Lingfield Derby Trial after a slightly troubled passage.

There is a supplementary stage on Monday when Wings of Desire is expected to be put back in the race at a cost of £75,000. Lingfield Trial winner Humphrey Bogart and last Saturday’s winner Red Verdon is also likely to be added to the field.

Latest odds: 7/2 Us Army Ranger, Wings Of Desire, 7/1 Cloth Of Stars 8/1 Ulysses, 10/1 Deauville, 12/1 Moonlight Magic
