THE Pike of Rushall, located on the old Dublin road between Borris in Ossory and Castletown, may not sound like the most exciting venue but, last Wednesday, a smashing day’s hunting was enjoyed by the Laois Foxhounds at that very location. The last time I hunted from the Pike, we met at the crossroads which has neither pub nor shelter but, this time, it was in the more salubrious surroundings of the home of Vincent and Breda Neville, just across the road from the parish church and school. Breakfast was being served as we arrived. The hospitality was probably the best I have ever enjoyed at any lawn meet and set a standard for others to follow. Perhaps the only type of person not catered for would be a teetotal vegetarian and they are very thin on the ground with the Laois Foxhounds!
