ALAN and Ann Potts, owners of last month's Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Sizing John, reinvested some of their winnings at Thursday's Goffs UK Aintree Sale when spending £300,000 on point-to-point winner Madison To Monroe.

Grand National entry Just A Par was bought in by leading trainer Paul Nicholls for £100,000 on behalf of owners Patricia and David Thompson. The horse will run on Saturday in the name of their son Richard Thompson.

and is set to race in the colours of the Thompson family, owners of Cheveley Park Stud.

Dr Peter FitzGerald of Grand National sponsors Randox Health, paid £130,000 for Virginia Considine’s Royal Rendezvous.

Goffs UK managing director Tony Williams said: "To achieve a top price in the £300,000 bracket once again this year is very pleasing at it shows that the Aintree Sale, now in its second year, is the measure of the market for this category.

"Irish pointers have proven hugely popular but it was particularly pleasing to see UK pointers sell well and we look forward to them emulating Constantine Bay, a UK pointer, who is now a Grade 2 winning hurdler for Nicky Henderson. We would like to thank all our vendors for choosing the Aintree and sale and wish our buyers success with their purchases.”
